Gel phase and mild soaps

I wanted to show the difference of the soap before and after gel phase...i don't know why but I tend get excited with the gel phase.

The first pic you can see the colour is darker than in the first pic...that is due to gel phase!

This pic was right after pouring and since it was already setting...i was able to texture the top sooner than usual.

This soap here is the same recipe as the one that went through gel phase but without colour or scent.

I'll post more pics when it's cut. I was just too excited to share lol.

Lavender & Cedar

So here's a look at making my soap.
For this soap I have decided to use purple soap coloring and lavender and cedar scent. .

First off I have to line my mould...
To do that I use freezer paper.
 Here is my mould...
I have to get the freezer paper in the mould so its nice and smooth and covers all sides...
And here it is all ready to go. .
Just make sure to tape the sides down so the paper stays snug in your mould and out of your way.
For my smaller mould it has a silicone lining... so its pretty easy to line.
And here they are! My soap recipe will fill both of these nicely.
In this bucket i have my oils that are liquids at room temperature..
Here are my solid oils. . These need to be melted... then added to the liquid oils.
Here is my colour dissolved in a little oil my lye and some sea salt..
While my solid oils are melting I dissolve my lye and salt... when it's clear and everything is dissolved it's about ready.
 Almost there!
There is a little in the bottom that still needs to dissolve.

If you wind up with a few particles that just don't want to dissolve... you can just filter them out before adding the solution to the oil mix.
All my oils mixed and lye solution added.
Just beginning to mix them.
And I missed a few steps because I only have two hands and need them both to make and pour soap. ... so! Here it is in the mould.
The lighter purple was made using white to lighten up the purple, then added seperatly then swirled with a stick to make the design...
The inside will be a different story... to see that it will need to get cut.. that will be added tomorrow.

This soap is pretty... nothing quite ad exciting as the last batch but still pretty cool..

Testing new colours!!

I am excited to play with real colour!! I'm  sure activated charcoal could count but this is just colour...the only benefits is that the soap is fun to look at lol... anyway, here is my first soap using colour..

Oops...ok so i didnt do a good job recording my progress... I think i was lost in my thoughts...

That is my beautiful soap loaf which once cut looks like beautiful Ocean waves... and it smells of delicious warm coconut... not too strong. I'd say just right...
As you can see...the wave effect is not just the top of the soap but throughout.

My journey into soap making

Well I'm pretty new to the soap making... been playing with it for a little while now and have decided that it's going to stay at the top of my list of hobbies/crafts..
You'll have to excuse that there isn't going to be a lot going on since I have only just started this blog but hopefully will be adding to it regularly.

You can find my products on facebook... Handcrafted Soaps.

It's been a while since I've tried to add links...and I can't remember as of yet but I will as soon as I figure it out.
